Paying Tribute to U Ottama

(မြန်မာဘာသာဖြင့် အောက်တွင်ဖတ်ရန်)

Early this morning in Sittwe I visited the statue of the late venerable Ottama, placed some flowers and paid my tribute to the great pioneer who first woke up Burma under British colonialists and shook it in waves of Burmese nationalism.

Being aware of their own rights as a nation, the Arakanese of today are however fighting for them under a different banner, Arakanese nationalism. Although they have taken a different path from Venerable Ottama’s, they always regard him as a son of our Arakanese soil, whose life work has always been under-appreciated by ungrateful Burmese majority.

So each year on 9th September the day of his demise, we pay our respect to this great man, even though the people of Burma Proper have forgotten him or whatever.

ယနေ့နံနက်စောစော စစ်တွေမြို့ရှိ ဆရာတော် ဦးဥတ္တမ ရုပ်ထုဆီသို့ သွားရောက်ကာ ပန်းစည်းချလျက် ကွယ်လွန်သူ ဆရာတော်အား ရည်စူးဦးခိုက်ခဲ့ပါသည်။ ဆရာတော်သည် ဗြိတိသျှကိုလိုနီသမားများ လက်အောက်ရောက်နေသော ဗမာပြည်အား ပထမဦးဆုံးနိုးထစေကာ ဗမာအမျိုးသားရေးဝါဒ လှိုင်းလုံးများဖြင့် တိုင်းပြည်အား လှုပ်ခါစေခဲ့သူ ရှေ့ဆောင်လမ်းပြဖြစ်ပါသည်။

သို့ရာတွင် ယနေ့ခေတ် ရခိုင်လူမျိုးတို့သည်ကား မိမိတို့ကိုယ်၌သည်ပင်လျှင် ကြံအင်ပြည့်စုံသည့် nation တစ်ခုအဖြစ် သဘောပေါက်နေကြသည် ဖြစ်ရကား ရခိုင်အမျိုးသားရေးဝါဒတည်း ဟူသော ကွဲပြားခြားနားသော အလံတော်အောက်တွင် တိုက်ပွဲဝင်နေကြပေသည်။ ရခိုင်လူမျိုးတို့အနေဖြင့် ဆရာတော် ဦးဥတ္တမ၏လမ်းကြောင်း နှင့် ကွဲလွဲသော လမ်းကြောင်းတစ်ခုကို လျှောက်လှမ်းနေကြပြီ ဖြစ်သော်လည်း၊ ၎င်း၏ ဘဝသက်တာ အလုပ်လက်ရာအား ပြည်မနေ လူများစု တို့၏ အပြည့်အ၀ အသိအမှတ်ပြုခြင်းကို မခံရသည့် ကျေးဇူးသိတတ်ခြင်းကို မခံရသည့် ရခိုင်မြေ၏ သားကောင်းတစ်ဦးအဖြစ် ဆရာတော်အား အစဉ်သဘောထား ကြပေသည်။

သို့ဖြစ်ရာ ဆရာတော် ပျံလွန်တော်မူသော စက်တင်ဘာလ ကိုးရက်နေ့သို့ နှစ်စဉ်ရောက်လေတိုင်း ပြည်မနေသူတို့က မေ့လျော့သွားသည်ပဲဖြစ်ဖြစ် ဘာပဲဆိုဆို ကြီးမြတ်သော ဤလူသားအား ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ သတိရ ဦးခိုက်ကြပါသည်။
